Extra Select Wild Bird Food Buckets

Extra Select Black Sunflower Seeds is sourced generally from Europe and the UK. This is high oil black sunflower which has also been selected and correctly harvested to produce the maximum oil content. Black oil sunflower must not be harvested late as this produces a high acid content and must be fully matured or you just get empty husks.
Our black oil sunflower seeds are screened, graded and then a little vegetable oil is added to give them extra shine so the birds can spot them more easily! (It’s true!) plus they are absorbing nutrients even as they remove the husks to get at the seeds themselves. All critical for the long term health of our birds.

Peanuts

Extra Select Peanuts are a great source of fat, fibre and protein for your wild birds. Greatly beneficial during the colder months as well as the breeding season, you will have a variety of birds flocking to your feeders as they provide the extra energy boost they need.
Loose peanuts can be harmful to young birds as they can cause choking. Please feed from a mesh nut feeder.

Niger

Extra Select Niger Seeds is a superb little seed, easily digestible and high in oils, protein and energy. It is loved by finches and tits and its favourable amino acid pattern means it is very useful when fledgings are about.
Not to be confused with thistle for which it is often mistaken (and often mis-sold).
You will need a special feeder for niger because the seeds are so light and will be blown out of the usual tubular types, but it’s certainly worth it.

Sunflower Hearts

Extra Select Sunflower Hearts these are bakery grade kernels produced from black oil sunflower seeds. This means they are from the sunflower which contains the highest levels of oil and therefore energy rather than the confectionery grade hearts which are mainly taken from medium and large striped sunflower seeds. Our sunflower hearts are also put through a sortex machine which uses lasers to colour detect any black husk still remaining, producing a uniform and totally husk free sample. We use these same excellent sunflower hearts in our blends, we dont substitute lower grades in any way.

Extra Select Spring & Summer Mix is an important product in the feeding calendar and we know from our own feeding stations that the birds absolutely love it. Why important? Spring is a difficult and extremely demanding time for wild birds. They have to cope with winter stress, then they are straight into nest building and trying to get into good breeding condition.
This blend has been designed to help them do just that. It is a special mix of essential high energy ingredients combining the right minerals, vitamins, trace elements and proteins for rebuilding strength and for high quality egg production. This blend is also key to skeletal and tissue growth in fledglings and building up the immune system. Plus it contains aniseed, excellent for digestion and an attractant helping the birds find their way to these essential foods.
